We fought OURSELVES in the US Civil War (1861-1865); so it was the bloodiest.

The death toll was also higher than any other war obviously because American citizens were the ones fighting.

The bloodiest war in American History was the Civil War, noted as being the first industrialized war ever. It featured many items later integrated into WWI, including the gatling gun and maxim gun. Mortars, which were used around the Revolutionary War sparingly, were applied here more often. And most of all, casualties affected both sides mutually since both sides were essentially American.
