In his short lifetime (died at 32) he was absorbed in conquest. As a teenager he was involved in military operations with his father, then spent 10 years conquering the Persian Empire from the age of 22. He planned to take Sicily and Carthage to give himself control of the then-known world. His time for intellectual pursuits was very limited.
