In the book "The Miracle Worker"
Human nature is basically good (no original sin), but we are constantly tested during our lifetime by the opportunities to sin.
Jesus Christ is the son in the holy trinity. He is the savior of the world. His death took away the original sin of Adam and Eve, this lets humans have a chance at heaven.
There are many more than four sins in the book of Genesis, but these all stem from Adam's original sin when he disobeyed God and ate of the fruit forbidden of God to eat.
Mary the Mother of God is free from sin; she was protected from original sin because she was chosen to be the mother of Jesus (this is called the Immaculate Conception), and she stayed free of sin her entire life. Jesus is the second person free of sin; though He was subject to all human temptations (see the temptation in the desert), he did not succumb to temptation. Catholic Tradition also holds that St. John the Baptist was also free from sin, having been sanctified in his mother's womb. The precise moment is pointed at in St. Luke 1:42-44 when John jumped for joy upon hearing the voice of his Savior's mother. John, therefore, was conceived in sin, however, was purified and permanently justified while in the womb. Some theologians and faithful also believe St. Joseph to have been free from sin. Whether this is so has not been defined.
Grace. Puritan beliefs were influenced by John Calvin, one of the great Protestant reformers, and can be defined by four general Calvinistic principles.1. The absolute sovereignty of God (that He is all-powerful) and His Providence (His involvement in the affairs of men).2. Original sin and the total depravity of man. Since the Garden of Eden, man has been born in sin, and he is totally unworthy of God's grace.3. Because free will was lost through original sin, God predestines man's fate (predestination), and even 'though man is unworthy, God will choose some men for salvation (election).4. God's grace is revealed through the Bible.
In "The Miracle Worker," Annie refers to the original sin as the refusal to communicate, which she sees as the root cause of Helen Keller's struggles. By breaking through this barrier and teaching Helen language, Annie seeks to overcome this original sin and bring light and understanding into Helen's world.
The whole idea of "original sin" - if that's what you mean, I may have misunderstood - basically corresponds to Christian theology.
Original sin comes from the Augustinian tradition that we are all descended from Adam and Eve, and therefore are all guilty of their sin in the garden of Eden. Original sin means that you are born into sin, hence in the Victorian era it was very common for a child to be baptised as soon as possible to rid them of said sin. Many people do not accept however, that newborns are inherently evil, and the idea of original sin is widely rejected by many denominations. For more information, research the Augustinian Theodicy.
