He is named after his biological father, Barack Hussein Obama Senior, a man he barely knew but whose name he inherited when he was born. Contrary to internet myths, President Obama has never changed his name, nor was he adopted by anyone. He used the nickname "Barry" in high school and early in his college career, but then went back to using his full name (Barack).

He then entered politics, becoming an Illinois state senator for three terms, and then a U.S. Senator. He was also the author of two best-selling books.
