Hans Christian Andersen was born in 1805 and his first published works were not his Fairy Tales. In 1829 he enjoyed considerable success of his first short story "A Journey on Foot from Holmen's Canal to the East Point of Amager". He also published a comedy and a collection of poems that season. His first actual novel was published in 1835, it was titled The Improvisatore, and it became and instant success. He also published his first collection of Fairy Tales in that year.
