He translated the Treaty into Maori.

There were problems regarding to language used in the document of the Treaty of Waitangi because when Henry Williams was translating the English version to Maori version he chose wrong words like 'rangatiratanga' and 'kawanatanga'.

Captain William Hobson - Lieutenant-Governor of New Zealand at the time, his secretary James Freeman and British Resident James Busby. Hobson soon came to the realisation that a treaty written in English would never be understood by the native Maori populus, let alone debated or agreed too, so he instructed missonary Henry Williams and his son Edward to translate the document. The entire treaty was written in barely four days and the translation was a rushed job done overnight.
