What was Ireland like in 1918?
Ireland in 1918 would have been rife with political tension
following the Easter rising in 1916, Irish independence would not
come for another four years and large amounts of guerrilla war fare
was to follow. Economically Ireland was still under the rule of the
crown but wouldn't have been particularly wealthy, heavy taxes from
the British Government would cripple local industry and most Irish
people would be employed in menial jobs.
