Jeff Smith's first cooking show was "Cooking Fish Creatively" which ran from 1973 to 1977.
In 1983, he moved to WTTW-TV Chicago and began producing "The Frugal Gourmet" where he wore his signature striped apron and a total of 261 episodes were produced, the theme music used for his show was the Water Music by George Frederick Handel.
In 1990, he left Chicago and moved to Seattle, where he picked up "The Frugal Gourmet" to A La Carte Communications, which also made Julia Child's later series produced by Maryland Public Television.
In 1973, Jeff Smith began hosting a cooking show called "Cooking Fish Creatively" produced by KTPS-TV in Tacoma, Washington before he became The Frugal Gourmet. At the start of the show, Jeff Smith said "How do you do ladies and gentleman and boys and girls, I'm Jeff Smith of the Chaplain's Pantry, and this is Cooking Fish Creatively".
