Abraham Lincoln was debating Stephen Douglas who was a great orator and known for his ability to compromise. Lincoln was trying to say that sometimes you can't compromise. His words were, "A house divided against itself can not stand." The public wasn't ready to listen to Lincoln and Douglas won the debates.
I guess you could say yes he did, because he won the election. Although, Lincoln did go on to become one of America's favorite presidents. So Lincoln kind of won in life
Lincoln argued that slavery was wrong. Douglas said that the founding fathers had slaves and that local people should be able to decide if they want slavery or not. Douglas labeled Lincoln as a radical. Lincoln said that how could Douglas say it was popular sovereignty if Northern States had to enforce the Fugitive Slave Law.
as one who does Lincoln Douglas debate on the nat. circuit a kritik (aka critique) is a negative case that criticizes or challenges some implicit assumption of the resolution. IE. There are varying opinions on how historians framed Senator Stephen A. Douglas felt about Abraham Lincoln's House Divided speech. He was morally outraged, or perhaps better said, he felt revulsion against what he termed Lincoln's position against compromising deal making in politics. Douglas' view was that Lincoln could only be motivated by an apodictic moral style that always views "deal making" as making a bargain with the devil. To Douglas, Lincoln's language of divine imperative was totally inconsistent with moral ethics. In summary, Douglas was deeply offended, to say the least.

Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln's first inaugural address was about the Southern states that were trying to secede. He said that the Union was could not be separated and said he did not want to send soldiers to the South.
I think Lincoln is trying to say is that the best thing about the future is that everything will turn out fine even if you get to a wrong start
He didn't say that in a debate, but in the Gettysburg Address. It is probably one of the greatest speeches any president has given.
