Kemal rejected unfavorable treaty at the end of WWI and fought for a more favorable Treaty of Sevres establishing Turkish hegemony over the entirety of Asia Minor. He also abolished the sultanate and the caliphate modernizing Turkey and distancing itself from Muslim laws and traditions. Law and government were westernized and education was standardized. Kemal's reforms created a stronger, more stable state with far less international influences than other Ottoman successor states.
