Such guns were called crow's foot pistols and consisted of 3 to 4 barrells. The idea was not only to give a shooter more chance to hit the desired target, but also to intimidate other members of the crew (there was no way of shooting a single barrel, so if the captain or a midshipman decided to fire this kind of gun at one of the most aggressive sailors, someone else was sure to be hit with other three bullets)
