Warm Water Ports- needed for Russia's navy and marine trade. Russia recently built a pacific seaport of Vladivostok. It was the only active Russian port that was operational during the summer seasons which left them vulnerable and without a good source of trade during the winter seasons. Prior to laying Dreadnaught's keel, Whitehall was awaiting the reports from her Majesty's naval officers (official observers) stationed aboard the Japanese battleships during the Battle of Tsushima on 27 May 1905. After receiving and digesting the reports, the go-ahead was given to "lay her keel" on October 1905; 4 months after the Tsushima sea action.
