It was also used in the South to kill growth so the Vietcong wouldn't have cover. One of the biggest health risks associated with Agent Orange is cancer. Veterans and citizens of Vietnam are still getting cancer today.

Equal parts of 2-4-D mixed with 2-4-5-T. It was sprayed from aircraft along the Ho Chi Mein Trail, and other places in Vietnam to kill off the trees and underbrush. The 2,4,D kills broad leafed plants that do not have woody stems. 2,4,5,T kills woody stemmed plants. Agent Orange is a herbicide made by mixing two other herbicides - 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T. The purpose was to kill some of the jungle so we could find the enemy. The problem with it was something we didn't know about 2,4,5-T then but do now: when you make it, you absolutely must control the process temperature. If it gets even slightly overheated - which, because 2,4,5-T generates a lot of heat while it's being made, is almost impossible NOT to have happen - it forms a very dangerous chemical called dioxin, which is what's killing all the Vietnam vets. And if it's too cold the mixture of chemicals you put in the pot won't become 2,4,5-T.
