Along with working to save our national parks system, he was responsible for having five new national parks created. He had about 230,000,000 acres of American land saved for national parks purposes. He also had a significant hand in the creation of almost 20 national monuments and 150 national forests. Roosevelt is often referred to as "The Wilderness Warrior."

The 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, who thoroughly enjoyed his time in the White House, became Vice President to William McKinely in 1901. When McKinley was assassinated later in that same year, Roosevelt assumed office. Among his many achievements while in office, Roosevelt is noted for his handling of the coal miners strike of 1902, The Sooner Act of 1902 (the building of the Panama Canal), and the dispute between the US and Great Britain between the boundary of Canada and lower Alaska.
