As best I can recover the transition was based on warfare and natural disaster destroying the evolving fabric of various groups. A primary issues was the natural decay of leadership having achieved some semblance of dominance. This is evident as leaders would often declare themselves god, and therefor were unaccountable to the people for whom they were responsible. Typically first genreation "gods" tended to beinfit nations they held having earned and learned the lessons to properly govern and lead a people. The issue then fell to heredity which in many cases could not pass on the life lessons key to the leadership assigned to "gods". These nations then fell to a state of decay.

The establishment of written records to guide both peoples and leaders to a state away from the idea of "godship" was key in the evolution to modern Europe. Having adopted Judao_christian ideas perfected in ancient Judea. These ideas would define rulership and give to the ruled accountability to the rulers of their various nations. This accounts for the prevalence of the Judao ideas in both Christianity and Islam.

Much of the the current world is based on the foundations established in ancient Israel, which promoted the ideas of modern democracy, that is accountability of rulers, and the recognition of humanity amounts all men even those who might declare themselves gods.

Jewish Diaspora can account for much of evolution of the idea's of freedom that permeate Europe. The difficult and troubled spread of these ideas can be reasonably be related to the turmoil in Europa. There is a direct relationship between the mixing of these ideals and the ingenuity of the ancient Romans and Greeks that forms the strongest tradition of both material and spiritual understanding that formed the backbone of ancient Europe.
