Francisco Franco ended a period of political turmoil in Spain with a violent revolution. He dragged Spain kicking and protesting, by the nap of the neck, from somewhere in the 18th or 19th century into the modern 20th century. He did so by establishing an absolute Dictatorship.
He also was wise enough to bring back the Grandson of the last King of Spain, raise him to be a King, and to provide for a peaceful transition, upon Franco's demise, from an absolute dictatorship to a stable, democratic, constitutional monarchy.
I have never heard rumor one that he had billions of dollars looted from the country in secret accounts.
I think the future will regard him as a great patriot that did what he could, what he had to do, to the best of his ability, for his country. It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done in the face of tremendous privation and foreign opposition
I think he had a tremendous impact for good in Spain.
