Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb. Without light, the actors/actresses cannot see where they were going. With the lightbulb, they can put on show in both the daytime and night.
sir humphrey davy. his light was created by electricity going through a thin piece of platinum wire.
The shrink ray used to make horses small enough to fit into the engine (going from life sized to 1/10 the size) was far more expensive than modern cars. Some people also thought it cruel to shrink horses despite the fact that it was easier to feed them. It was also far easier to clean up after them when they were smaller.
He had a workshop of people working on inventions, so most of the time he was managing the work going on.
Mankind has survived thousands of years without the light bulb. We could survive without it now. Thomas Edison was known to mainly improve ideas of others. He was a hard worker and never gave up on his experiments. The electric light was another idea he was going to solve.
When he came in 1884, he began working for Edison who offered him $50,000 to fix a problem that Edison had with his direct current system. After Tesla fixed the problem, Edison was not a man of his word and didn't pay him. Tesla walked out and in a matter of time, produced the system the whole world was going to use which was the ac system.
Thomas Edison was the first "industrial" inventor. He took the art of invention to new heights, and made it into a real industry. Edison's real genius lay not in invention itself, but in commercializing his inventions. He made sure that each invention would have a market, that it really was useful and desired BEFORE he invented it. He was astonishingly persistent, and kept going when others might have given up.
