What was happening politically when pop music was created?

If by "pop," you mean early rock 'n' roll, i.e. the early 1950s, here are just a few of the things that were going on . . .

McCarthyism, the Cold War, House Un-American Activities Commitee, J. Edgar Hoover, Hollywood Blacklist, Korean War, president was Dwight D. Eisenhower (general in WWII), climate of conformity/conservatism/materialism/consumerism/etc, Fidel Castro comes to power in Cuba, Suez Crises in Egypt, Civil Rights Movement/sit-ins/etc, increased black voter registration, increased integration, crackdown on organized crime (is this when the RICO Act was passed?), Kinsey Report, NASA (though the USSR did beat the US to space with the launch of Sputnik), polio vaccine, astronomical rise in purchases of tv sets, juvenile delinquent culture (JDs) prevalent (gangs, rumbles, etc) and at least partially influenced by Brando (especially in The Wild One) and James Dean (in Rebel Without A Cause), not to mention the hip gyrations of Elvis "the pelvis" Presley and the scandalous actions of Jerry Lee Lewis, etc, rock n roll = the devil's music (again, Elvis & Jerry Lee Lewis being prime examples of this concept for its believers), lots of musical comedies and whatnot movie-wise, beat generation & beat lit, huge rise in comic book sales - collecting began. And so on and so forth. Lots of uber-americana attitudes, influences, etc. Art - who the eff knows? Was that the era of the guy who does the wholesome New Yorker covers?
