A series of battles occurred in the drive on Richmond. They are known as the Richmond-Petersburg Campaign and included the Siege of Petersburg. The battles in this series lasted from June, 1864 until March 25, 1865. A final quick succession of battles led General Lee to abandon Richmond to the Union on April 3, 1865.
