The Ripper's MO was typical for this type of killer. Prostitutes make easy targets for predators with their "high risk" lifestyle, so it is no surprise when they turn up dead. Jack the Ripper cut the throat's of his victims making it impossible for them to scream for help. Once silenced, he would mutilate the victim's torso in obvious rage, complete with sexual connotations. Although it seems doubtful that the killer "consummated" the act with typical rape, these murders were about power and sex. His later victims also suffered severe facial mutilation as well, most likely to de-humanize them, reducing these women to garbage, leaving them to bleed out in the gutters of Whitechapel. It took incredible nerve to commit such crimes on the street where he could have been caught in the act. This probably added to the killer's excitement.
