In 1812, when the US invaded Canada from Detroit, the strategy used by Canada was the same as Russia had used against Napoleon just a few years before.
Canadians and their First Nations allies engaged in strategic retreat, until the enemy's supply lines were stretched beyond their limit. The supply lines were then cut, and the supplies were seized or destroyed. Then the Canadians mounted their counter-attack and drove the US forces, by then in tatters, all the way back to Detroit.
American forces reclaimed Detroit.
The War of 1812 did not have a clear winner or outcome in terms of territorial gains or major political changes. However, it did result in a renewed sense of American nationalism, as well as a recognition of the United States as a legitimate player on the international stage. The war also led to the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, which restored pre-war boundaries between the United States and British Canada.

An invasion is the incursion into one body by some kind of foreign agents. The most typical example is a military invasion, when the armed forces of one sovereign state enter the territory of another sovereign state without the permission of that state, such as the invasion of Poland by Germany in 1939 or the invasion of Iraq by the United States. The entry into the human body of hostile microorganisms is also described as an invasion. We talk about a home invasion, when burglars enter a home without permission, about invasion of privacy, when outsiders intrude on something we consider private, and invasion of personal space, when someone enters the space around one's body. The entry of The Beatles and other British rock bands into the American music scene in the mid 1960s was described as "The British Invasion" as the British bands were perceived as invading an industry over which Americans had a sovereign right.
One result of the 1898 Spanish-American War won by the United States was the Treaty of Paris. This was an agreement which stated that the Spanish would surrender Cuba and cede Puerto Rico.
For the most part US and British forces participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 1944. Because of the size of US armies, most of the troops involved in the D-Day operations were American troops.

Mussolini Was Forced To Resign.
There was a plan to have a three-way invasion of Canada. One from Detroit, one from Fort Niagara on Lake Ontario, and one from Lake Champlain in New York. All three failed. So they failed to capture Canada because the armies lost.
