Near the end of May 1865, the largest and best known post-US Civil War parades took place. This was called the Grand Review and was directly tied to the end of the US Civil War. The review highlighted the Army of the Potomac and units of Major General William T. Sherman's army. The soldiers marched under detailed orders that governed all aspects of the parade. President Andrew Johnson was the premier "reviewer" along with other high ranking politicians and military officers.
