Clearly the Confederate General Robert E. Lee earned his fame and was respected by almost everyone. Respected, however, as much as it could be since he was a leader of the Southern rebellion. Lee was once a West Point superintendent.As an aside, Lee was not in favor of secession. As a loyal son of Virginia he became an adversary of the North reluctantly.

Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith was a graduate of West Point's class of 1845. He ranked 26th in his class.
Confederate General Lloyd Tilghman graduated from West Point in 1836. Among the 49 cadets that graduated that year, General Tilghman ranked 46th. General Tilghman was killed at the Battle of Champion Hill in 1846 while directing a Confederate artillery battery.
James Longstreet held the rank of major general in the Confederate army. He graduated 54th in the West Point class of 1842.
Union General Richard Delafield graduated from West Point in 1818. He was ranked first in his graduating class of cadets numbering 23. During the US Civil War, Delafield was placed in charge of securing the New York City harbor from any Confederate attacks. Prior to the war, Delafield also served as the superintendent of West Point.

He was the commander during the assault on Fort Sumter.

McClellan and Lieutenant General Stonewall Jackson. Neither of them served at the Battle of Gettysburg, where unfortunately Pickett's name became well known due to the infamous charge he led on the last day of the Gettysburg battle in 1863.
