The internet was first developed in the late 50s, early 60s as a way of communication, and method of sending data by the US military. It was specifically designed to not have a 'central' location, ie, destroying one building would stop it. It was developed in response to the USSR launching Sputnik into space. It also was used to improve troop morale by way of smut.

∙ 15y agothe first internet was used by the department of defense. Back them only numbers and letters were the only thing that flowed trouhg it. Congress authorised it for civilian use and since then it has grown as you know today.
