The term Julio Claudians refers to the aristocratic family of ancient Roman rulers. The end of the ancient Roman Republic basically came to an end when the Roman Senate made Julius Caesar dictator for life. Caesar was shortly assassinated not long after. He was however, the founding member of the Julian - Claudian family of emperors that followed him after his untimely demise. The following are the Julian Claudian emperors that began in 30 BC.

1. Octavian Caesar, later given the title of Augustus Caesar;

2. Tiberius;

3. Caligula; and

4. Nero

While the families continued the next emperor after Nero's suicide was Vespasian. This emperor was of the Flavian family who built the Roman Colosseum and ended the Jewish revolt in 73 AD.
