The Quakers sent a petition to the House of Representatives in 1790 to end the African slave trade. This was closely followed by another petition from the Pennsylvania Abolition Society. The Society was wishing to end slavery too. The petition claimed that slavery was imcompatible witht he values for which the American Revolution had been fought. The petition was also signed by Benjamin Franklin.
Quakers were the pioneers in the anti-slavery movement, first speaking out against slavery in 1688. Four Dutch Quakers sent a petition to the monthly meeting of Quakers, calling for the abolishment of slavery. No action was taken on this petition due to the Quaker's commercial interests.

WHAT ARE THE QUAKERS HOLiDAYS?
the quakers.
No Quakers don't take communion.
The Quakers believe in pacifism and nonviolence as core principles of their faith. Some Quakers actively engage in social justice and community service work as a way to live out their values. We met a group of Quakers at a peaceful protest advocating for environmental conservation.
The Quakers in Pennsylvania refused to support any declaration of independence unless the Congress first attempted to resolve the situation peacefully. The Quakers were very influential and managed to get a majority of Congress to agree to send a polite note pleading for peace and negotiation. (The King's response was to angrily denounce the Congress and call for execution of anyone associated with the independence movement.) The King definitely did not want the Olive Branch. The Olive Branch Petition did apparently have an influence on some in Parliament, who continued to make pleas to the King for the next 5 years while the war raged on.
