Manfred Von Richtofen was the real name of the Red Baron.

His complete name with military rank and royal titles was:

Rittmeister Manfred Frieherr von Richtofen.

Baron von Richthofen first served as a member of 1st Regiment of Uhlans (or Lancers) before he joined the German Air Force. The flyers were allowed to retain the uniform of their previous unit so that is why he is seen wearing the double-breasted coat of the cavalry unit.

Manfred Von Richtofen was known as the Red Baron. He was a German ace in World War one and shot down 80 enmy planes.
Baron Manfred von Richthofen

He was a German Ace in WW1. He was famous because he was the highest scoring ace of the war for all pilots of all countries. He was officially credited for shooting down 80 aircraft. Compare this to the highest ranking American ace Eddie Rickenbacker with 26 victories. He was also know for his skill in the air battle even though he was not that great of a pilot. Instead he used his stalking ability and was a ruthless killer in combat.

Manfred Freiherr von Richtofen.

"Freiherr" because he was knighted. Like the German version of "Sir Xxx".
