They were called the Allied Forces along with the Royal forces. There were many companies and regiments that went to fight and they all had different names and numbers. The most popular became the 101st and 82nd Airborne, the 8th and 9th Army Air Corps, The tank regiments and all the infantrymen. These were the American favorites. I don't know which of the Royal Forces were their favorites or most victorious.
Europe
The Viet Cong were a cadre of patriot civilians in South Vietnam who were willing to fight for Vietnam's unification. The North Vietnamese Army was assembled and trained in the North, and sent south to fight to discourage and remove the United States and their allies from what they called the 'occupation' of South Vietnam.
Most of the US Forces were sent to Europe. During World War II the US only had 3 branches. So the Army and the Army Air Corps (Today the Air Force) were the ones to mainly fight in Europe, with some assistance by the Navy in Italy and Operational Overlord (D-Day). The Marines fought in the Pacific along with a large ammount of the Navy and the Army. But most US Forces were stationed in the European Theatre.
As far as the United Nations forces were concerned, some countries sent troops to fight, others sent medical teams or logistics teams to supply the troops. On the other side, China sent weapons, supplies and an army, Soviet Russia sent weapons and pilots to train and fight.
