We in Britain were bombed continually by the Lufwaffe from 1940 until early '45- there were air raids all the time, it wasn't limited to a specific battle or a specific period in the war.
However, you may be thinking of the heaviest series of air attacks that were inflicted on the UK, which lasted from early September 1940 up until May the following year, and is known as The Blitz. This occurred following Germany's defeat by the RAF in the Battle of Britain in May / June of that year, following which Germany lost crucial tactical air superiority which made any invasion of the British mainland impossible. Thenceforth, Germany resorted to heavy air raids, targeting towns & cities throughout England, Eastern Scotland and Southern Wales- this was done partly to damage the British industrial, military and communications infrastructure, and partly to try and wear down British morale, in the hope that Britain would weaken if subjected to continual devastating air attack.
London was the main focus for The Blitz, although many other British cities suffered devastating ruin, including Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Coventry, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Swansea, Newport, Belfast, Southampton and many others. Tens of thousands of people died in the raids, and the damage caused was so catastrophic that it was equivalent to the effects of small atomic bombs. The intention was to wipe out the British capacity to wage war to as great an extent as possible.
Although there was not another Blitz following May '41, heavy bombing raids continued right up until the March of '45. Latterly, guided missiles were used (the V1 'Doodlebug' and the larger, longer-range V2), and caused extensive damage- the V2 was designed originally to carry a multi-megaton nuclear warhead, which the Nazis were close to developing when the war ended. Had it gone on for another few months, large parts of Europe would remain atomic wastelands to this day.
The USA adopted a modified version of the V2 for it's early space programme, employing former German rocket scientists to work on it's projects.
Air campaign. An Air battle. Germany's Air Force tried to bomb England's air bases and cities in preparation of an invasion. Germany also launched their new wapon called the V2 rocket. It demolished the city of London
The Battle of Britain in which the Nazi German Luftwaffe engaged in air battles with the British Royal Air Force. The battle time frame also included the bombing of London and other cities and towns by the fuse of flying bombs or rockets rather called the V2 Rockets. Germany lost the Battle of Brittan.
We fought two long and hard wars with Germany which involved many battles. In World War I were the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Jutland. In World War two were the Battles of El Alamein, the Battle of Britain, the Battle for the Rhine, the Battle of the River Plate Plenty to choose from. You were possibly thinking of the 1940 air battle called the Battle of Britain.
The Battle of Britain took place against the Nazi bomber and fighter planes in the skies over Great Britain during the Summer of 1940, during a period when Britain stood alone against them. It was fought in the skies over Britain after France surrendered following the Battle of France. It takes its name from a speech Churchill gave in which he said, "The Battle of France is over. The Battle of Britain is about to begin."
The Hindenburg Line.
