The biggest man-made blast was the Russian nuclear test of the Tsar Bomba. The 50kT weapon represented a scaled down (by 50%) version of the original design.

The largest natural blast in modern time may have been either the Tunguska blast, or the explosion that destroyed Krakatoa, depending on which version of the events you review.

In the past, there were impacts on earth of big (really big!) rocks from space that made any of the cited events seem tiny by comparison. And there is a theory about the origin of the moon being a collision between earth and a massive body that fell into the earth gravity well. This dwarfs any other "blast" that the earth could have experienced if it is true.

Another theory is that the earth itself was made from an explosion called the big bang theory. There are so many variations of theories for the largest explosions.

The largest man-made blast so far was that of a large nuclear weapon detonated by the U.S.S.R. It was their "Tsar Bomba" that had a yield of about 50 megatons. It was set off at Novaya Zemlya on 30 October, 1961.
