Betsy Ross was first buried at the free Quaker burial ground on South 5th Street. Twenty years later her remains were re buried in the Mt Moriah Cemetry in the Cobbs Creek Part of Philidelphia. In 1975, in preperation for the United States Bicenteniul it was ordered that her remains were moved to the courtyard of the Betsy Ross house. But there was no remains found under her tomb stone.
Betsy Ross's remains may have been in at least two cemeteries in Philadelphia. Betsy Ross's body was first buried in the Free Quaker burial grounds on North Fifth Street in 1836. Her remains were moved to the Mt. Moriah Cemetery about twenty years later, but no remains were found in her plot when the city wanted to have the remains moved to the courtyard of the Betsy Ross House in 1975. It was decided that bones found in another parts of the Ross family plot, bones that may or may not have been part of Betsy Ross’s remains, should be buried in the grave at the Betsy Ross House.
