Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederate States of America, moved the Confederate government to Richmond, Virginia in large part due to the heat and mosquitoes that were common during the Alabama summers. Once Virginia seceded from the Union and joined the Confederate States of America, the Confederate government moved to Richmond, Virginia. The last Confederate capital was Danville, Virginia.
