During WW2 I believe that Germany was divided between east and west, thats why they have the Berlin wall.
East was ruled by communist russia while west was ruled by the allies (america, france and Britain), Berlin was in the eastern side but it was also split up like the whole of Germany was, into four sectors, each one ruled by the corresponding ally.
one is east and one is west.obviously...
The wall of Berlin was built my the Soviet Union to separate the communist East Berlin from capitalist West Berlin. This was done to prevent massive population migrations from the East to the West.
Anyone who had skills that could be sold in the West, like doctors and engineers, were defecting from East Germany to West Germany. (Oh yeah...they forgot to tell you. The East Germans built another "wall" - well, fence - along the border between East and West Germany.) The Soviets told East German dictator Walter Ulbricht to think of a way to stop the defections from happening, and Ulbricht decided to build a wall all the way around West Berlin.
The Berlin Wall.
The Berlin wall
it was dividing east berlin and west berlin
It was build in East Berlin, by the East German government (presumably at the behest of the Soviet Union), on the East Geman side of the border between East and West Berlin. Its purpose was to prevent the escape of East German citizens to West Berlin.
West Berlin became prosperous while East Berlin struggled with communist pigheadedness and incompetence. Nobody tried to escape from West Berlin to East Berlin.
stop trade between East and West Berlin
stop trade between East and West Berlin
Two major cities were split in the Cold War between east and west:Berlin -- West occupied by Democratic West Germany and East occupied by Communist East GermanyJerusalem -- West occupied by Israel and East occupied by Jordan
Because their was a wall down the Middle, separating East Germany and Berlin from West Germany and West Berlin. The East side was supported by the Soviets while the West side was supported by Americans.
The Berlin wall separated east and west Berlin
The east coast is on the east and the west coast is on the west.
