Generally speaking, the church in Gaelic areas operated very closely to principles of hereditary functions so offices such as erenaghs and coarbs were extant in those parts. Organisationally, the lands of the church in Gaelic areas were also under the control of certain lineages groups who recieved immunities from rent and tribute, and their possession was often confimed by bishops.
