Moscow was founded by Iouri Dolgorouki. It was protected by a wooden wall in the XII century. The total area of the city does not exceed 5 hectares in the eleventh and twelfth centuries. It is a small town. Moscow was destroyed by the Tatars in 1238. ("Tatar" is a name for a group of people located in southern central Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, China, Kazakhstan, Romania, Turkey and Uzbekistan.) Moscow was rebuilt in the XIV century by princes, descendants of Daniel Aleksandrovich, the son of Alexander Nevski (Grand Prince of Vladimir). Moscow is now the capital of Russia. In 1703, Peter the Great built Saint-Petersburg and Moscow ceased to be the capital of Russia. After the Russian Revolution in 1917, the Soviet government makes Moscow the capital of the Russian Federative Socialist Republic. The 30th December 1922, Moscow becomes the capital of the USSR. In 1991, the USSR is dissolved. Moscow is still the capital of Russia.
