What is the use of dogs?

Well, look at what they do for the community. Sniffer dogs, sometimes police dogs, as security, once fire dogs, nursing home dogs, they provide entertainment and much more.

Furthermore, the Greenlandic sled dogs insured the Eskimos' survival just a few years ago and still do today in the northern regions of Greenland.

Also, dogs that aren't police dogs and are just family pets provide exercise (If you run with your dog like yoru supossed to -.-) and love for the owner.

Dogs in the past were mainly used for hunting. For example the Gordon Setter was developed in the 1700's and was let go to find the "Hunt" and would sit there and wait for the hunter pointing to where the "hunt" is.

The Canaan Dog originated in the 1930's in the land of Canaan out of breedings of the wild dogs of Israel, which dated back to biblical times working as guard and herding dogs for the Israelites. Drawings of dogs which looked like the Canaan dog were found in tombs that dated back to 2200 BC. Arab desert-dwelling groups (Bedouins) still use the dogs for guarding their camps and sheep and for herding the flocks. The breeds founder, Dr. Rudolphina Menzel trained more than 400 Canaan Dogs to use in mine detection work for the Middle East forces. The dogs were able to detect mines better than any mechanical devices. In 1965 he imported four dogs to the United States by ship on the western shores. These first four imports had coat colorings of white with black masks and patches. Later imports introduced a variety of other color patterns. Some of the Canaan Dog's talents include, search & rescue, war sentry, messenger, mine detector, tracker, herder, guard, and a guide for the blind. The Canaan Dog was first recognized by the AKC in 1997.

The uses of dogs depends partly on breed,different breeds can do different things depending on how their bodies are built.They can be used as seeing eye dogs,herd sheep,guard dog,they can keep wild animals away from livestock and also used for competition,there are probably more things they are used for,it all depends on how the breed is built.
