If your referring to the "muzzle loading" musket/rifle; the US Army's last offical use of that weapon was the US Civil War. In 1866 the US Army adapted the metallic cartridge 50-70 single shot rifle. Then in 1873, the US Army got rid of the 50-70 and adapted the 45-70 Government cartridge. Both sides used the musket/rifle in the Civil War. A muzzle loading musket could be either smooth bore or rifled. However, generally speaking, whenever a man used the term "musket", it was usually presumed to be a smooth bored weapon.

the colonists used bayonets which were spear like weapons that attached to the front of the musket. It allowed for close combat. Another advancement was the barrel used in the musket the colonists created a barrel that had sharp grooves on the sides which allowed for a more accurate long-distance shot.
Most patriots were armed with the Flintlock musket.
Perhaps the most common was the French Charleville flintlock musket in .69 caliber.

The flintlock, smooth bore musket was the most common weapon used by the French, English, and Indians during the French and Indian War. Toward the end of the war, all sides used bayonets. The Indians used hand-to-hand combat at times.
Soldiers during that time mainly used muskets with bayonets attached to the end. Some soldiers could afford a single shot rifle. The sailors and Navy would most likely use flintlock pistols as did pirate Sir Francis Drake.Artillerymen would have the cannons (obviously) and short swords. The Calvary Men would have model 1763 Sabers and sometimes Flintlocks like the Navy.
Andrew Jackson was a soldier during the Revolutionary War. He probably used a musket during the war. Also, some officers used swords during the war. Flintlock Pistols were secondary weapons during the war. Also, he might have fired some cannons while a soldier.

The muskets used in the colonial era were typically smoothbore muzzle-loading firearms. These muskets were usually around .75 or .80 caliber, had a long barrel, and were fired using a flintlock mechanism. They were commonly used by infantry during the American Revolution and other conflicts of the time.
