For World War II, the causes spell out M.A.I.N. The causes are: MILITARISM -because Germany was not supposed to build up its army, (because of the Versailles Treaty) but under Hitler Germany started building up its army again. ALLIANCES -because Japan who was on our side for World War I, became a facist country and Japan sided with Germany, because Hitler was a facist. Imperialism -you still see how mother countries want to colonize smaller countries NATIONALISM -the smaller countries want freedom. Also think of Hitler in Germany, he stirred up nationalism in Germany...wanted "ethnic cleansing", and the Aryan Race These four powerful causes send many countries into World War II. Most people will tell you that the invasion of Poland and the bombing by Japan of Pearl Harbor were the direct causes of World War 2. Truthfully, the real problems were LACK OF OIL, SEEKING OF OIL AND Natural Resources, PRIDE AND DESIRE TO RULE THE WORLD, RACISM AND MANIACAL PEOPLE LIKE ADOLPH HITLER. The Japanese needed oil and they did not want the US Navy coming after them when they wanted to get oil from the Dutch East Indies. Hitler wanted all of Europe to create a world of pure Aryan peoples and to eliminate all the Jews and undesirables.

The sinking of the Lusitania took place in May 1915; the U.S. entered World War 1 in April 1917. It's a mystery to me that people say it was a cause of the U.S. going to war. Obviously, it turned public opinion in the U.S. against Germany.
