It was relied by reinforcements brought by Mithridates I of the Bosporus. And was at the Battle of the Nile, where the forces of Ptolemy XIII of Egypt were defeated. Subsequently two cohorts of the VI and the entire XII undertook Caesar's forced march to Pontus where he defeated Pharnaces II of Pontus in an astonishing five-day campaign. The VI played a crucial role in the final victory at the Battle of Zela (74 BC). It was discharged and its veterans were settled at Paterna Arelatensium Sextanorum, (the ancestral Julian colony of Arles), modern Arles in south-eastern France. It was present at the Battle of Munda in southern Spain (45 BC). After Caesar's death it was reconstituted by Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, who handed it over to Mark Antony.
