The Emancipation proclamation had multiple points. Its main point was if, by January 1, 1863, the seceded Southern states did not come back to the Union, all the Slaves would be ordered free. Another considerable point was that the military and the navy would recognize the freedom of the slaves and regard them as humans. On the topic of the military, another point made by Lincoln was that freed Slaves were considered to be able to be drafted in the military at any time. The last point was that any freed Slave should abstain from violence now that they were free. Since they were now under protection under the law they must follow it. l From January 1, 1863 on all Africans were considered as human beings and equal to any White man.
Lincoln issued a preliminary proclamation warning that in all the states still in rebellion on January 1, 1863 he would forever declare their slaves "then, thenceforward, and forever free." January 1 came and with it the final proclamation which committed the government and armed forces of the United States to liberate the slaves in rebel states "as an act of justice, warranted by the Constitution, upon military necessity." The proclamation exempted the border slave states and all or parts of three Confederate states controlled by the Union army on the grounds that these areas were not in rebellion against the United States.
It freed the southern slaves, therefore weakening the Souths economy and making it easier for the north to win the war.
