∙ 8y agoPassed in 1798, the Alien and Sedition Acts were intended to protect the United States from foreign/enemy citizens and stop seditious attacks from weakening the U.S. in a time of war (Quasi War with France). However, they were attacked for being unconstitutional and Thomas Jefferson, the next president ordered them null and void.
