The major concern of the delegates was to make a government not too powerful and to still let the states have their independence.
Under the Articles of Confederation, the government was too weak. It could not force the states to make their citizens pay taxes. Every state had a different kind of money. And if one state doesn't like a law, that law will not be made.

how was the constitutional convention of state representation settled
The issues of the slave trade and runaway slaves were addressed at the Constitutional Convention through various compromises. The compromise reached allowed the slave trade to continue for 20 years before being prohibited, and established rules for the return of runaway slaves to their owners. These compromises reflected the contentious nature of slavery among the delegates and aimed to balance the interests of states with different views on the institution.
Delegates at the Constitutional Convention solved the problem of state representation in Congress through the Great Compromise (or Connecticut Compromise). This agreement established a bicameral legislature, consisting of the House of Representatives, where representation is based on population, and the Senate, where each state has equal representation with two senators. This compromise balanced the interests of both large and small states, allowing for fair representation while ensuring that all states had a voice in the legislative process.
It wasn't
There were several disagreements in the convention. One of the major ones was that the small states were afraid that the larger states would have more power. This was solved through the VA plan where there would be two houses in the legislative branch. Then, there was the problem in counting slaves as part of the population for the House. It was decided that a slave counted as 3/4 of a person in the count. These are just two of the problems that cropped up.

Small states feared that they would be dominated by larger states, whose larger populations could outvote them. The solution was to create a Senate in which each state will have two Senators, regardless of the population of the state.
The Great Compromise, also known as the Connecticut Compromise, solved the issue of how the states were represented in congress. Resolved in the Constitutional Convention of 1787, the Great Compromise solved the problem of representation for smaller states by having Congress have two senators for the Senate and proportional representation in the House of Representatives, based on population of the state.

The weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation were addressed during the Constitutional Convention of 1787, where delegates recognized the need for a stronger central government. They replaced the Articles with the U.S. Constitution, which established a federal system with a separation of powers among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. This new framework allowed for a more balanced distribution of power and granted the federal government the authority to levy taxes, regulate commerce, and uphold laws, thereby resolving the inadequacies of the Articles. Additionally, the Constitution included mechanisms for checks and balances to prevent any one branch from becoming too powerful.
