It was the various groups of people that settled in the Yucatan peninsula but weren't fully "civilized", meaning they were hunter-gatherers (nomadic) or built small villages of no more than 30 people - they were pre-Mayan. When those people began to consolidate in larger groups, they eventually built cities whit a distinctive culture which we recognize as the Mayan civilization.

Poor country... A lot of slavery.
They didn't have a big enough story in their culture
they have lack of rich people
The decline of the Maya civilization began well before European contact, primarily due to internal factors like warfare and environmental changes. However, when Europeans, particularly the Spanish, arrived in the early 16th century, they engaged in conquests that severely impacted the Maya. Notably, the Spanish conquest of the Yucatán Peninsula began in 1517, leading to violent conflicts and the eventual subjugation of many Maya communities. The effects of colonization, including disease and warfare, further decimated the Maya population over the following centuries.
Mayan, Inca, Aztec

Before being discovered and conquered by the Spanish, the inhabitants were the Mayans, as the area constituting Honduras as well as Belize and Guatemala, etc were ruled by the Mayan Empire. The Mayans can be considered a Native American Civilization, like the Aztecs of Mexico. For the most part the Mayans interbred with their conquerors and much like most Latin Americans represent a blending of mixed ancestry, making them Hispanic. So, it depends how you look at it. Either the natives are (Latino/Hispanic) Hondurans or the Natives are the Mayans.

Well, the Greeks went way before the civilization we call the Aztecs. If we wish to compare a western civilization with an eastern one like the greeks, we should look toward the Mayans or Olmecs.
The Olmecs were the first civilization to rise in Mexico, around 1500 BC. They influenced the rest of the civilizations that flourished in Mexico and Central America, including the Aztecs and Mayans. Some examples of this influence include corn domestication, warfare, religion and human sacrifice.
