The Apostle Paul was recorded to have made at least four missionary trips and at least one of them ended up with him in Rome. They were apparently very successful because of the number of Christian congregations that appeared throughout these areas.

Paul is the famous one. He wrote the letters you can see in the Bible today, like Phillipians, Ephesians, Thessalonians and Philemon. However, there are many missionaries today, and have been throughout history, and each missionary carries out God's mission; to spread the Gospel, which s essentially spreading Christianity.

If you mean the majority of conversions as most succesful, it would have to be Paul, the apostle.

If you mean contemporary, probably Hudson Taylor or David Livingstone.
