General George Washington came to Boston after the Battle of Bunker Hill to take command of American forces surrounding Boston in 1775. He came with British artillery that became available when British Fort Ticonderoga surrendered. Patriot Henry Knox was given credit for dragging a good number of captured cannons from the fort. It was heavy work to drag the artillery over rough terrain to get to Boston.
The battle of bunker hill showed the colonist that they could hold their own against the british. General Washington soon arrived to command the siege of Boston.To drive out the British,Washington needed the cannons from fort Ticonderoga.
America fought the British Empire for independance in 1775-9.

He was the Commander in Chief, America for the British Forces, from September 1775 until May of 1778. He was in command at the Siege of Boston, the capture of New York City and the capture of Philadelphia. He resigned his Commission after the British defeat at the Battle of Saratoga. Some laid the blame for General John Burgoyne's defeat at his hands. In any case that defeat virtually ended his military career although no official blame or charge was ever brought forward or established.
