Dickinson believed declaring independence would hurt the colonies rather than help them. He argued that it would lead to a war that would cause great suffering. He did not think any European nation would help the colonies against Britain. He also believed that the colonies would not stay united if they won independence.

Englishman is not a sexist term. There is no gender in the English noun, and even if there were, sexism would have nothing to do with it.
American expansion was a threat because, the Americans believed in "Manifest Destiny" which was the belief that the United states had a duty to take over the land of North America. The colonies of BNA, thought if they joined together they would be a better defense.
