Ivy Mike, or just Mike, was the codename given to the hydrogen bomb tested on Elugelab. That was part of Eniwetok Atoll, and that was part of the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. That was in 1952. Another bomb test named "King" was slated for that same location, but had to be tested in Runit islet.
Little Boy and Fat Man were the names of the two bombs dropped on Japan.
yes bikini atoll in the Pacific read the bomb good book
the island of Tinian in the pacific..............................
Pearl Harbor
british armed serveses preparing for h bomb tests
The plane that dropped the bomb on Nagasaki flew from an island in the Pacific, not from the continental United States.
The Soviet Tzar Bomba in 1961 at a yield of about 52 megatons had the biggest blast. The US Ivy Mike in 1952 was the largest bomb in size, it weighed 82 tons and occupied most of an island in Enewetak Atoll and vaporized the entire island leaving an underwater crater in its place.
An Atomic bomb destoys EVERYTHING in it's path (I once had one threat from an a-bomb at school once).Even if you are at least 500 feet away, you WILL be vaporized.
there is no bomb island
Some 43 nuclear tests were detonated at Enewetak from 1948 to 1958. The first hydrogen bomb test, code-named Mike, was tested on November 1, 1952. The explosion vaporized the island of Elugelab. This was done for testing.
The pieces were constructed at Los Alamos, NM, final assembly was on Tinnian island in the pacific.
Japan : Hiroshima & Nagasaki were the cities destroyed. I have heard also that some small Pacific islands were completely vaporized by hydrogen bomb tests during the 1950s, including Bikini Atoll and Elugelab Atoll (the swimwear got its name after the explosion destroyed the island). In addition, I recently learned that the first hydrogen bomb (fusion bomb) test in the South Pacific was about twice as powerful as scientists anticipated. Although the evacuated area was still large enough to keep anyone from being harmed by the larger blast, the extra fallout was suddenly an unanticipated threat to the people of the Marshall Islands, and the U.S. government had to rush over and start evacuating them. I don't know how much harm was done to the people of the Marshall Islands, but I do know that the Marshall Islands has a national holiday to honor its atomic victims.
The Island hopping strategy was originated from Allied General Douglas MacArthur in WWII. The idea was broken down into three easy steps: 1. Bomb the Island 2. Invade the Island 3. Build an airfield to bomb the next island The reason behind Island Hopping is so the US could get close enough to Japan so they can use the Atomic Bomb to force the Japanese to surrender and end WWII on The Pacific Theater
