He climbed several, including Mt. Rosa, but never completed the climb of the peak named after him, claiming that it would never be climbed. Today, Pikes Peak is has a road that tourists can drive to the summit on, a summit house providing lunch and snacks, a mountain race course that annually has a variety of bikes and stock cars racing for the clouds and trails that many pre-teens easily climb every day, there is a half-way house on the main trail for those who need a bunk for the night and a cog railway that makes the run for those to lazy to walk or to timid to drive. It is so tame now that one hardy group makes a New Years Eve hike to the summit to set off a fireworks display every year.
