Her names was Sally Hemings. It has not been established beyond doubt that Thomas Jefferson was the father. It is possible that his nephew could have been the father. Their descendants' DNA would be the same in either case.

There's strong evidence that Thomas Jefferson fathered one or more children by Sally Hemmings, one of his slaves.
Yes Thomas Jefferson did have a long standing affair with Sally Hemmings and fathered many, if not all of her children. To call her black is not excatly true. She was 3/4 white. Her mother was the product of an African Slave and a British sea captain and her father was white (and also the father of Jeffersons wife Martha)
That child was also a slave.
Some slave masters in history include Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and John C. Calhoun.
Jefferson did not have any sons, except possibly for a slave son named Tom.

When a female slave gave birth to a child, it was also considered the property of her master. The slave children were separated from their mothers minutes after birth and taken to live with a "grandmother," usually an old, female slave who couldn't work in the fields or in the plantation house anymore. Slave children usually didn't start actual slave labor until they were 10 or older, but their years between birth and then weren't pleasant because they were given little food and even less clothing because the master didn't want to waste money on a slave that wasn't producing labor yet.
