The Zimmermann Telegram or Note
The zimmerman note which was sent to Mexico from Germany and intercepted by the United States. It instructed Mexico to regain Texas from the U.S and promised German support.
In 1917 a document now known as the Zimmermann Telegram was intercepted by the British. In it, Germany urged Mexico to form an alliance with them and wage war against the US. In return, Germany promised Mexico much of its old lands back, consisting of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Germany sent a telegram to Mexico to become and allies and Germany would help Mexico get back what the United States took from them during the Mexican-American War. The United States took Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona from them during the Mexican-American War.

Enemy forces sent a letter to Mexico, which was intercepted by the Americans, telling them to invade America.
Germany wasn't the most friendly to the US in war time. They sent a note to Mexico asking them to take back the Southern states(Zimmerman Telegram). The British intercepted this message and passed it on the the U.S. Germany and Britain caused the U.S. to fight in World War I

Arthur Zimmerman, German ambassador in Mexico City. The note stated that a Mexican declaration of war on the U.S. would be given German support to help in the reclamation of part of the territories lost during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). Specifically, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
